12 He [Jacob] dreamed that there was a ladder (stairway) placed on the earth, and the top of it reached [out of sight] toward heaven; and [he saw] the angels of God ascending and descending on it [going to and from heaven]. 13 And behold, the Lord stood above and around him… [Gen. 28:12-13; AMP]
16 Then Jacob awoke from his sleep and he said, “Without any doubt the Lord is in this place, and I did not realize it.” [Gen. 28:16]
Jacob had this dream within the boundaries of the Promised Land when he came to a city called Luz, but after awakening from this dream, he renamed the place Bethel.
The origin of the word Luz is unknown; it denotes only a location. Luz, to me, is synonymous with wondering or searching. [https://biblehub.com/hebrew/3870.htm]
Bethel on the other hand is derived from two Hebrew words: בַּיִת (bayith, meaning “house”) and אֵל (El, meaning “God”)
Bethel thus means “House of God.” It is a significant location in the Bible, often associated with worship and divine encounter. [https://biblehub.com/hebrew/1008.htm]
The death and resurrection of Jesus, the Messiah, ushered in the new dispensation of the Holy Spirit and the Church of believers. 1 Corinthians 6:19 states:
19 Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is within you, whom you have [received as a gift] from God, and that you are not your own [property]?
The believer’s body is a temple: Your body is Bethel – the place of worship for the Holy Spirit. It’s a place of connection between the believer and God. So too, angels are always at work to support us while God observes His children, keeping a close eye on them.
Be encouraged that the Holy Spirit lives within you. We are blessed! Amen
