The prophet Isaiah, in chapter 53, titled ‘The suffering servant’, gives a physical description of Jesus’ appearance as the incarnated God-man. We might have some preconceived ideas that He was a handsome, charismatic man, but Isaiah depicts something totally different.
2 For He [the Servant of God] grew up before Him like a tender shoot (plant), And like a root out of dry ground; He has no stately form or majestic splendor that we would look at Him, Nor [handsome] appearance that we would [a]be attracted to Him. 3 He was despised and rejected by men, A Man of sorrows and pain and acquainted with grief; And like One from whom men hide their faces
This description rather matches the appearance of the beggar on the corner – those ones we hide our eyes from, secretly hoping that they don’t approach us and ask for something.
Then in Revelation 19:11-16 we find the prophecy of the return of Christ the Conqueror:
11 And I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse, and He who was riding it is called Faithful and True (trustworthy, loyal, incorruptible, steady), and in righteousness He judges and wages war [on the rebellious nations]. 12 His eyes are a flame of fire, and on His head are many royal crowns; and He has a name inscribed [on Him] which no one knows or understands except Himself. 13 He is dressed in a robe dipped in [f]blood, and His name is called The Word of God. 14 And the armies of heaven, dressed in fine linen, [dazzling] white and clean, followed Him on white horses. 15 From His mouth comes a sharp sword (His word) with which He may strike down the nations, and He will [g]rule them with a rod of iron; and He will tread the wine press of the fierce wrath of God, the Almighty [in judgment of the rebellious world].16 And on His robe and on His thigh He has a name inscribed, “KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS.”
His title is KING OF ALL KINGS, AND LORD OF ALL LORD.
In the book of Acts 5:1-5, the apostle Peter writes about a man and his wife who didn’t take Jesus seriously. In fact, they stole from Jesus in the form of withholding the tithe portion of land proceeds they received for selling a piece of property. Their naivety cost them their very lives.
Now a man named Ananias, with his wife Sapphira, sold a piece of property, 2 and with his wife’s full knowledge [and complicity] he kept back some of the proceeds, bringing only a [a]portion of it, and set it at the apostles’ feet. 3 But Peter said, “Ananias, why has Satan filled your heart to lie to the Holy Spirit and [secretly] keep back for yourself some of the proceeds [from the sale] of the land? 4 As long as it remained [unsold], did it not remain your own [to do with as you pleased]? And after it was sold, was the money not under your control? Why is it that you have conceived this act [of hypocrisy and deceit] in your heart? You have not [simply] lied to people, but to God.” 5 And hearing these words, Ananias fell down suddenly and died; and great fear and awe gripped those who heard of it.
Do not underestimate our God-king. Give honour and respect that is due Him and worship Him during your few years on earth, for when you close your eyes on this earth and find yourself standing before the judgment seat of the King of kings and the Lord of Lords, no second chances will be given. The Holy Sword will come down in judgment without showing mercy.
Change your lives now while there is still time.
God bless you.
